Goodwin Technical High School is located in New Britain Connecticut. We have 659 students from nine towns and enroll grades 9-12. We offer 11 career and technical education programs. Students must take core courses, but also have the opportunity to add electives to fulfill their credit requirements. In their junior year, students also have the ability to take advantage of our Work-based Learning program, where they can earn credit while working during the school day in their trade. LEARN MOREExplore Our Programs Automotive Technology Students in the automotive technology program are given instruction in safety, tools and equipment, engine repair, electrical and electronic systems, brakes, steering and suspension, engine performance, air conditioning, and driveline service. Learn More Carpentry The Carpentry program is organized around the fabrication and construction of residential housing and related remodeling. Production work is an essential part of the carpentry trade program experience. Construction agreements are made with customers to build, renovate, remodel or extend structures. Learn More Culinary Arts Culinary Arts program students are trained in all phases of the food service industry. Students take the hands-on” approach with their training through the use of fully stocked and operational commercial kitchens to produce food in large quantities, as well as smaller scale kitchens that train students on casual and fine dining. Learn More Electrical Electrical prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills to install, operate, maintain, and repair electric apparatus and systems such as residential, commercial, and industrial electric-power, and DC and AC motors, controls and electrical distribution panels. Learn More Hairdressing and Cosmetology The Hairdressing and Cosmetology program encompasses a broad range of specialty areas including hairstyling, nail technology, and esthetics. It is the art and science of beautifying and improving the skin, nails, and hair, and the study of cosmetics and their applications. Learn More Health Technology Health Technology students are given instruction in health care safety, nutrition, National Health Care Standards, categories of health care facilities, legal/ethical/moral concerns in health care, and effective communication including medical terminology. Learn More Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) The Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) program teaches construction safety, measuring and blueprint reading, calculations of ductwork and heating systems. Students are also instructed on domestic and commercial refrigeration systems, gas, and oil heating. Learn More Information Technology Students in the field of Information Technology are introduced to basic concepts of computer hardware and software. Instruction is provided in office productivity software, computer programming, web design and desktop publishing. Learn More Landscape Design, Installation and Equipment Landscape Design, Installation and Equipment will be a new shop available to incoming 2023/2024 students. Learn More Mechanical Design and Engineering Technology Mechanical design and engineering technology (MDET) students learn the design process, industry standards, and documenting design specifications through this project-based curriculum. Students advance using 3D solid modeling software for reverse engineering solutions of existing mechanical designs. Learn More Mechatronics Mechatronics students learn a wide variety of electromechanical principles and practices. Students learn all aspects of electrical and electronic circuitry supplies; semiconductor devices, AC/DC motors and motor control, pneumatics, hydraulics, robotics, PLCs and mechanisms. Learn More Plumbing and Heating The Plumbing and Heating program prepares students with knowledge in construction safety, measuring and blueprint reading, calculations of plumbing and heating systems. This includes drainage fixture units, water supply fixture units, gas pipe sizing, and calculating heat loss for hydronic heating applications. Learn More Precision Machining Technology In Precision Machining Technology, students learn machine safety, measuring tools, and precision machining fundamentals using manual milling machines, lathes, and other metal processing machines. Students’ progress using computer numerical controlled (CNC) machining and turning centers. Learn More Student Workforce Student Workforce Work-Based Learning (WBL) allows a student to work for an employer during their trade instructional time. Students not only receive credit toward their career technology, but also get paid. Off-Campus Construction Projects CTECS has the unique ability to complete construction jobs off-campus, on both residential homes and commercial properties.
